Kelly Jean Harris

Last seen in Jackson, Michigan on August 10, 1984

Vital statistics: Biracial (black/white) female. Born on April 29, 1971. Black hair, brown eyes. She has a gap between her upper front teeth and occasionally wears eyeglasses. Last seen wearing black striped shorts and an orange shirt with gray stripes. Was thirteen when last seen.

Circumstances: Harris was last seen riding her red three-speed bicycle. She was reported missing by her family when she failed to return home later in the evening. Her bicycle was located later that same day in a park that was some distance from Harris' home. Her family learned that Harris had purchased a bus ticket to Detroit, Michigan and was observed boarding a bus to that location at the local station. Classified as a Non-Family Abduction.

Theories: Kelly Harris's case is difficult, mainly due to the fact that it is uncertain what happened to her. The fact her bicycle was found abandoned seems to indicate that she was kidnapped, but her purchasing a bus ticket to Detroit seems to indicate she might have run away. While one can argue the fact it has been almost twenty years with no contact to show that Harris was taken against her will, one can also point to the case of Laurie Davern, who was missing for almost thirty years before she was located. All that can be done is to search- and perhaps hope Kelly calls home.
